MARK HUGHES has warned that his side’s Premier League opposition underestimate Stoke at their peril.

Stoke earned a deserved point from a 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Stanley Matthews Way on Saturday.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting netted twice for the Potters, either side of goals from Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku for United.

After the game Jose Mourinho claimed that his side “wanted to win” while Stoke “wanted to draw.”

The Portuguese also claimed that the game was tailored made for Marouane Fellaini, who was missing from the matchday squad having picked up a minor injury on international duty for Belgium, seemingly implying Stoke were a physical side who like to play long-ball football — a label that they have been unable to shake off from their time under the stewardship of Tony Pulis.

“That’s just an easy swipe at us really,” said Hughes.

“I think you could argue that United played more long balls than us and why wouldn’t they.

“With the power and pace and if they can release those players ahead of the ball quickly and with good accuracy then they [have] got pace and power to burn.

“They’ve got that threat and thats what they try and exploit.

“I think it’s a bit lazy of people to just keep on reverting to that saying that Stoke are a physical team.

“Overall we’ve changed and we’re a different type of team. We try and bring good players here and we try and play good football and I think you saw evidence of that today.

“We’ve got good character in the group now.”
